We offer customized and structured programs for adolescents and adults on an individual and group basis.
Regarding Adolescence
Adolescence is a time of multiple transitions. Bodies are changing, peer pressure is growing (especially through social media), and the demands of community and school environments are expanding. No wonder Adolescents have difficulty figuring out who they are especially given the tension between their innate drive for independence and their ongoing dependence upon parental and educational guidance to instill values and skills needed for success in life. As a result, varying degrees of depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders may surface during this time of constant and all too often chaotic change not only in the adolescent but in the family as well.
Counseling can help young individuals understand how biological factors, family, peers, school, community, and social media shape feelings and thinking. Counseling can also help parents create a stable home environment based on mutual understanding and respect.
In our supportive office, our therapists create a space that allows the adolescent to talk openly about thoughts and feelings, identify positive and rational goals, and examine how poor choices and high-risk behaviors block these goals.
The benefits of group therapy are embedded in our programs such as
- Parenting with Love and Limits a program for troubled teenage boys and girls
- STAR, a program developed by the Berrien County Trial Courts Family Division for troubled girls.
- Re-entry
Adults
Adults come to therapy to get help in understanding and coping with the stresses of life. There are as many reasons as there are individuals. Thankfully, Psychologists over time have been able to categorize many of stressors that interfere with a functional life and formulate programs that can help people understand their issues, heal and go forward.
One things for sure, stressors tend to worsen over time
